Bolivia: Potosi – Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus

Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus is often considered the most beautiful church in Potosi – a superb example of lavish baroque-mestizo architectural style – a fusion of European baroque with rich indigenous motifs likeflowers, fruits, masked figures, tropical plants, and local deities hidden among the ornamentation. The church was built in 1700–1707. The church’s facade is the most impressive – toms of intricate stone carving covers almost every inch of the columns, arches, saints, angels, and so on. But the best part – you can climb the bell tower for the most stupendous panoramic view of Potosí and the Cerro Rico – absolutely worth it on a clear day!
