Bolivia: Salar Uyuni – Ojos de Salares

Ojos de Salares literally means “salt-flat eyes” – these are the area at the edge of the Salar Uyuni where underground brine salty water percolates up in bubbling cold springs through the salt crust. The bubbling happens because pressurized water from the underground aquifer forces its way up through holes or weak spots in the salt crust. And while the springs do look like geysers, they really are not. Somewhat similar to the Badwater are in the Death Valley.
