Botswana: CKGR – Blooming Lillies

After the first rains, the Kalahari semi desert spring to life in a matter of just days – grass shoots out and lily bulbs that’s been dormant for months quickly produce leaves and giant flowers. There are multiple species present at CKGR, we saw blooms from Sand Lilies (Ammocharis coranica), Kalahari Lilies (Crinum paludosum), Fire Lilies (Cyrtanthus herrei), and Bushveld Vlei Lilies (Crinum macowanii) – and this is just on a single day drive – imagine how many botanical wonders are hidden in this giant reserve, and perhaps some not even discovered yet.
