Botswana: Little Free-Tail Bat in Savuti
Have you ever see a bat up close? No they don’t look like Batman or even Ben Affleck…. This little guy – most likely a Little Free-Tail Bat – flew into the dining area at the Savuti Wilderness Camp and got confused by the light perhaps and landed on a dry tree. And stayed there, posing in different position for me to take photographs. The little free-tailed bat is one of the smallest bats in the world, and this specimen was just 6-7 centimeters long. He was furry all over, had big ears, cute eyes, and a small tail that was free (hence the identification). Interestingly, little free-tail bats are not very maneuverable in tight spaces so maybe that’s why he decided to stop and hang out with me. Literally – hang out!
