Bougainville: Crossing the Buka Strait
Having landed on the smaller Buka Island, one need to cross the fast flowing Buka Strait to get to the main island of Bougainville. It’s only about a 10 minute ride with many colorful longboats taking the journey nonstop back and forth. The current is quite strong and the waves almost get to the point of whitecaps. Life jacket?
