Brazil: Pantanal – Capybaras
Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world – the size of a nice pig. They weight 35 to 65 kg (75 to 145 lb), and are perhaps the most common animal in Pantanal. Sometimes solitary, but more often in small groups – you can spot them sitting on river banks, swimming in the river, or walking in the marshy greens. They have webbed feet and oily fur that is well adapted to living in or near the water. They are edible, although I didn’t get a chance to try it.
