Burkina Faso: Bobo-Dioulasso – Exploring the City

Bobo-Dioulasso is the second largest city in Burkina Faso, nearly 1.5 million people live here. There were two small villages here in the 19th century, when the French came and established a bigger settlement. It’s a city that is sprawling, hot, dusty, and hectic. Besides the spectacular Grande Mosque, other places of interest include the catholic Cathedrale Notre Dame des Lourdes (a rather modernist structure), Bobo-Dioulasso Railway Station (built during the colonial times and made to resemble the white-washed Sudanese-style mosques), and the Hotel de Ville administrative buildings.
