Cameroon: Largest Kossipo Tree on Nyong River
The largest kossipo tree in Cameroon can be found along a jungle track after an hour ride in a dugout canoe. The tree is massive and over 1000 years old! Kossipo (Entandrophragma candollei) is an endemic tree in the equatorial Africa and is highly thought after for both its size and wood qualities – the red color makes for great furniture. It’s a close relative of mahogany. Besides the humongous tree, you get to hike in a true jungle, replete with massive insects, colorful butterflies, and alien-looking caterpillars.
