Cameroon: Yaounde
Yaounde is not the largest city in Cameroon, but it is the country’s political and administrative capital, with all the government institutions, embassies, and associated political importance and messiness. Yaounde is scenically located on seven hills and is known for cooler and more pleasant climate than most of the country. Yaounde has a lot of monuments and interesting architecture, semi-futuristic and semi-brutalist at times. Independence Square with the Monument and the nearby Hotel de Ville is the heart of the city, and the busy arteries lead to the National Bank and the Yaoundé Cathedral. The football stadium in the north is also interesting. The city is hectic and busy, although much less than Douala. Lots of government office sit in glass and concrete structures that attempt to look sleek and cool but look more like 1980s back to the future style.
