Canada/Alberta: Drumheller Badlands & Willow Creek Hoodoos
Drumheller Badlands west of Calgary is an area famous for their unique geological formations, such as hoodoos and colorful cookie-layer canyons. The Drumheller Badlands were shaped over millions of years through a combination of volcanic activity, sediment deposition, and erosion. During the Cretaceous period, the area was a lush coastal plain with swamps and forests, teaming with dinosaurs. As the landscape changed, layers of sediment built up, later exposed by wind and water erosion to reveal the striking landscapes of canyons and hoodoos The exposed sedimentary layers now display a variety of colors and strata. You can climb a d explore the hoodoos on the Hoodoos Trail near the Willow Creak, but the entire road toward Drumheller is spectacular.
