Canada/Alberta: Edmonton – Alberta Legislative Building
The Alberta Legislature Building, often referred to as “The Ledge,” is an iconic historical and political landmark in Edmonton. It is the seat of the Alberta government (Edmonton is the state capital) and houses the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Legislature Building sits on a hill overlooking the North Saskatchewan River, giving it a prominent location. Built between 1907 and 1913, the building has a classical Beaux-Arts style with grand columns, a central dome, and limestone exteriors. The surrounding grounds feature expansive green lawns, flower gardens, and pathways. The fountains and reflecting pools in front of the building are a favorite feature, especially in summer when they are packed with people on hot days.
