Canada/Alberta: Elk Island National Park
Northeast of Edmonton lies the small but quite spectacular Elk Island National Park. The wildlife concentrations are quite here – elk, bison, beavers, and 250 species of birds! The park has rolling prairies, some forests, and a large lake. We definitely wanted to see bison, since two species can be seen here – plains bison and wood bisons – and we did get lucky to see both. Another highlight were beaver huts and we did get to spot one swimming around.
