Canada/BC: Kootenay NP – Black Bears
We were super lucky to spot black bears while driving through Kootenay – two adult males crossed the road literally in front of us and continue digging for roots along the highway as we watched them for nearly half an hour. Black bears are relatively common in Kootenay National Park, thriving in the diverse habitats ranging from valleys to higher elevations. Black bears are omnivorous, feeding on berries, plants, insects, and occasionally small mammals (so no need to be afraid really – they are not interested in you).
