Canada/Labrador: Hiking Tundra at Hebron
The desolate tundra above the abandoned old missionary settlement of Hebron seems cold, dark, and inhospitable at the first glance. But it’s an absolutely fantastic hiking terrain – no trails, no people, just awesome exploration (just beware – it’s polar bear territory). Massive fields of tundra wildflowers like the fiery red fireweed, or the aromatic Labrador tea lighten up the ground. Dozens of old caribou antlers – perhaps this used to be the caribou pasture grounds – litter the landscape. Green wet tundra set against black granite rocks set against steel-blue ocean and all of it shrouded in fog. Miles away from the civilization!
