Canada/New Brunswick: Saint John – Fort Howe
Fort Howe stands right in the middle of Saint John near where the river enters the port area and the Bay of Fundy. The Fort was built be the British in 1777, during the American Revolution, to protect against possible American raids. It was a rather simple fort, but on an a commanding hill with panoramic views. A replica wooden blockhouse is the centerpiece of the fort with several canons around. Come here at sunrise and you will have the entire old town in front of you.
