Canada/Ontario: Ottawa – Byward Market
Byward Market is one of the most famous attractions in Ottawa. Established in 1826 right after the construction of the Rideau Canal began, it grew out of farmers and fish markets and into an eclectic collection of shops, restaurants, museums, and old-school market stalls. Throughout its history the market was demolished and rebuilt three times. The actual market building now is a rather small hall full of boutique eateries and mostly souvenirs shops. The streets around are packed with restaurants and even clubs, the entire area is beaming with life.
