Canada/Saskatchewan: Regina – Saskatchewan Legislative Building
Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan, the third Canadian province on this trip and the only one I haven’t been to before. It was founded in 1882 and named after Queen Victoria. Initially a small settlement, it became the capital of the Northwest Territories in 1883, and later, Saskatchewan’s capital in 1905 when the province was established. Regina played a central role in the Canadian prairies’ development, especially during the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The main attraction here is the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, designated the National Historic Sote of Canada. The building was built in 1909-12 in the Beaux-Arts architectural style. Situated on the banks of Wascana Lake within Wascana Centre, the Legislative Building is famous for its grand dome, marble interiors, and beautiful landscaped gardens. The building houses the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. We even got lucky to get inside for a mini tour.
