Canada/YT: Haines Junction
Haines Junction has a population of 613 people. It’s basically a one street village on the junction of the Alaskan Highway and the Haines Road going down to the American enclave of Haines. It has one bar, three very basic motels that don’t serve breakfast, one bakery, two churches, and two gas stations. That’s it! But the location is probably the most picturesque in the entire Yukon – it is right at the edge of the Kluane National Park and the Wrangell-St Ellias Mountain range (the highest mountains in Canada and the largest glaciers outside Greenland). The mountains rise sharply and are visible from any point in Haines Junction. There are benches facing the mountain range pretty much everywhere – just buy a cold beer at a gas station, sit, and enjoy a surreal sunset!
