Canada/AB: Jasper NP – Bighorn Rams
Bighorn sheep have massive 30-40 pound horns, representing more than a tenth of their overall body weight and exceeding the weight of all other body’s bones combined. Originally, bighorn sheep came from Siberia over the land bridge and have acclimatized well in the Rocky Mountains, mostly in the northern Canadian part. At one point, the hunting reduced the North American population to below 1000, but protection in the national parks has restored the numbers. I got to literally feet of them in the side of the road, and although they seemed peaceful, those massive horns looked quite intimidating.
