Canada/AB: Jasper NP – Mountain Goats
Rocky Mountain Goats live only – well – in the Rocky Mountains. They scale improbably high and steep rock cliffs, often almost absolutely vertical. They have super warm snow white fur coats, that have an external layer of hollow hairs making them weatherproof in temperatures down to -50 F/-46 C. They also have specially adapted hooves that can spread apart and also equipped with dewclaws that keep them stable on slopes over 60 degree steep. It’s a beautiful animal all around and not commonly seen in the park. But once again – I am lucky!
