Canada/Somerset Island: Wildflowers of the Somerset Island
The wildflowers of the arctic have to survive harsh environment of cold and snow for most of the year and find time to germinate and bloom during the short summer period. Among the species to be seen on the Somerset Island are Arctic Cottongrass, Arctic Poppy (stunningly fragile and beautiful), Tufted Saxifrage, Purple Saxifrage, Arctic Willow (these are actually trees, but they grow only 10cm/3 inches high), Arctic Avens, and many others.
