Canada/Nunavut: Fishing lake trout
Another insane experience – fishing arctic rivers just coming free of snow and ice for spectacular lake trout. Lake trout is a species of char (a close relative of salmon) that lives in the lakes of Northern Canada and doesn’t migrate to the open ocean (unlike the closely related Arctic char). They are prized as game fish and put up an awesome fight (just need to keep in mind not to fall through the ice into the river). And lake trout makes for awesome on-the-spot sashimi!
