Canada/NWT: Yellowknife – around town
Let’s start with the Canada posts… Yellowknife is in the middle of nowhere deep inside Canada and is the capital of the Northwest Territories province. The town has less then 20k people, mostly working for the local government as well as in diamond mines. Yellowknife is the diamond capital of North America being the third location in the world in diamond production by volume. The town is rather grim – a collection of boxy government buildings and an old town area with a couple of wooden houses. Float planes, frozen boats, ice and snow still everywhere in the middle of May – stark yet beautiful landscape.
