Catalonia: Barcelona – Mercado del Ninote
Less famous than the touristy Bouqueria market, Mercado del Ninot in the heart of the Eixample neighborhood is an absolute gem and should not be missed. The market was opened here back in 1892. Over more than a century of its existence, the market went through many renovations, the final being in 2015. It’s not just a market, it’s an experience. Stalls are bursting with fish and seafood, jamon and meat products, fresh produce, and local Catalan delicacies and specialties. Most of the stalls also work as bar restaurants, where you can sit and order the freshest stuff cooked for you – it’s an insane gastronomical experience! Also, one of the top steakhouses in Barcelona is located inside, with massive meat aging freezers on display.
