Central African Republic: Boali Falls
Boali Falls aka Chutes de Boali is one of the most visited natural attractions in the Central African Republic. The falls are located around km (62 mi) northwest of the Bangui, about an hour drive on a more or less ok road. Boali Falls are formed by the Mbali River, a tributary of the Ubangi River. The falls are really spectacular – dropping about 50 m (164 feet) and spanning a width of over 250 m (820 feet)! The waterfall’s volume and intensity are heavily influenced by seasonal rainfall, and we got quite lucky to witness the falls at their fullest. You can descent down the slippery rock to the bottom of the falls and get absolutely totally soaked! There is also a rather horrible attempt at a zoo at the top of the falls with cages crocodiles and baboons – a really sad and pitiful display. In a positive side – some truly spectacular ceiba trees here as well.
