Chad: Camel Barbecue in Ndjamena
The absolutely best culinary experience in this African trip – a camel barbecue! Camel meat is grilled on an open fire flames on a giant grill, then spiced with special sauces and spices and served with French baguette and fresh onions. Everything is shared and eaten with your hands (make sure it’s your right hand however, because left hand is used for different purposes) and it’s absolutely delicious – the meat is lean, fresh, and flavorful. Not similar to beef or lamb, but its own unique taste. And at $5 a portion, you can basically go all-you-can-it camel! No alcohol in Ndjamena as it is a quite strict Islamic culture.
