Chad: Road to Zakouma National Park

Going to the Zakouma National Park requires a full day of nearly non-stop driving, from before sunrise to well into the night. And this ain’t an interstate highway – the road from N’Djamena to Mongo is seriously potholed asphalt (probably never paved since colonial times) with a lot of dust, traffic, camels, goats, and just people walking. The road past mongo is pure sand and columns gravel, even more destroyed and potholed with massive dips and holes and even more cattle, random roaming camels, and running goats. Here and there you run into trucks packed with people – to the ultimate possible limit. The scenery is quite pretty with desert and occasional rock formations.
