Chad: Zakouma NP – Bee-eaters
Zakouma National Park i is an absolute treasure for birding, and Beeeaters are a major highlight, especially during the dry season. The Northern Carmine Bee-eater is the true showstopper here – famous for their vibrant red plumage and their habit of riding on the backs of larger animals like Kordofan giraffes or elephants to catch insects stirred up by their movement. They live in large flocks and dig out burrows in clay near water sources. Another specials bee-eater species is the Red-throated Bee-eater. We also saw equally colorful Little Green Bee-eaters and Little Bee-eaters.
