Chad: Zakouma NP – Birds

Zakouma National Park is birders’ paradise with over 370 species of birds (about half migratory). During our exploration of the park we spotted the following species (and more): Great White Pelican, Pink-backed Pelican, Yellow-billed Stork, Open-billed Stork, Marabou Stork, Saddle-billed Stork, African Spoonbill, White-faced Whistling Duck, Spur-winged Goose, Egyptian Goose, Knob-billed Duck, Black-crowned Crane, Cattle Egret, Great White Egret, Grey Heron, Hamerkop, African Fish Eagle, Bateleur Eagle, Dark Chanting-Goshawk, Hooded Vulture, African Harrier-Hawk, Beaudouin’s Snake Eagle, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Arabian Bustard, Red-billed Quelea (seen in massive clouds of millions), Northern Red-billed Hornbill, African Grey Hornbill, Abyssinian Roller, Northern Carmine Bee-eater, Red-throated Bee-eater, Little Green Bee-eater, Long-tailed Starling, Greater Blue-eared Starling, African Collared Dove, Black-breasted Barbet, Helmeted Guineafowl, Clapperton’s Spurfowl, Hadada Ibis, Sacred Ibis, Squacco Heron, Black-winged Stilt, Greater Flamingo, Senegal Coucal, African Jacana, Pied Kingfisher, Long-crested Eagle, Senegal Thick-knee, and more.
