Chad: Zakouma NP – Leopards

The crown jewel of our night drives in Zakouma was spotting a mother with a cub leopards in an open savanna plane – the mother watching the young cub explore the environment around him and practicing his emerging hunting skills. Spotting leopards in Zakouma is rather difficult since the animals are very shy and secretive and have to compete with large prides of lions and many hyenas. Leopards here socialize in smaller antelopes that they often kill and drag up the trees and away from other competing predators.
