Chad: Zakouma NP – Tiang Antelopes
Here’s another species only found in Zakouma – Tiang Antelopes. The Tiang belongs to the same family as the Topi and the Hartebeest. Zakouma is one of the last places on Earth where you can see large-scale movements of Tiang. During the dry season, they congregate in the thousands around the Rigueik Pan. They have a reddish-brown coat with dark patches on their upper legs and faces. They are built for endurance and speed. If they get spooked, they can gallop and reach speeds of up to 70 kmh (43 mph). We saw literally hundreds of them in the open planes of the pans.
