Chile: Bodega Miguel Torres
Bodega Miguel Torres is one of the top Chilean wineries. Here, you get very politely told that Argentinian malbecs in Mendoza are for brutes and unrefined wine-taster, and the real grape to savor is the Chilean Carmenere, a grape varietal almost extinct in France where it originated from, while flourishing in Chile. Great reds and plenty of other varietal are to be had at this fine establishment. Spaniards brought wine and pisco making to Chile in the late 1700s, taking advantage of climate and soils, while Miguel Torres came here in 1920s from Spain and established the eponymous winery. Great tasting experience and fantastic wines to buy as well – and carmeniere does best malbec after all!
