Chile: Alpacas the Chilean Antiplano
As you drive across the Chilean Antiplano, practically every village has a large herd of alpacas grazing neat a water source or green grass. Alpacas are relatives of llamas but are considerably smaller and live at a much higher elevation of 3500m / (11500 ft to 5000 m / 16000 ft. Unlike llamas, alpacas are not used for transporting anything or being meat sources, but rather exclusively for their fur.
