China: Huangshan Mountains

Huangshan Mountain aka Yellow Mountain, is one of China’s most mesmerizing and spiritually significant natural wonders. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, its towering jagged granite peaks rise through a perpetual blanket of mist and fog and are the subjects of many legends, paintings, works of art, and national pride. That’s assuming you get to see any of it during your visit because roughly 75% of the time (more than 260 day per year) the mountains are completely shrouded in absolutely impenetrable fog and mist and rain. And that’s exactly what happened – the visibility was just a few feet in front of you and then just a milky curtain of fog beyond. To do a complete circuit, you ride up the Yungu Cableway to explore the granite cliffs and crooked pines around the Bright Summit, then descend along the even steeper granite cliffs toward the Yuping Cableway to ride down th mountain. Stunning panoramic views could be had along the way… or NOT!
