China: Shanghai – Shanghai World Financial Center

Shanghai’s Pudong area is where glass and steel skyscrapers race against each other toward the sky. In fact, three towers stand literally next to each other – Shanghai WFC, Shanghai Tower, and the Jin Mao Tower – the world’s first adjacent grouping of supertall skyscrapers. The SWFC looks like a giant bottle opener and was built in 2007 (the gift shops in the building actually sell building replicas that are fully functional bottle openers). With the height of 492m/1614ft it is the 9th tallest building in the world at the moment. The observation platform occupies two top levels in the actual bottle opener part and you can walk on a glass floor above the abyss below as well as enjoy panoramic views toward the Bund.
