China: Suzhou – Humble Administrator Garden

The Classical Gardens of Suzhou are the pinnacle of traditional Chinese landscape design. Built between the 11-19th centuries, these UNESCO World Heritage sites are designed to recreate natural landscapes in miniature. One of the most celebrated and distinct masterpieces within this collection gardens is the Humble Administrator’s Garden – the largest and most famous classical garden in Suzhou, widely considered one of the four greatest gardens in all of China. Originally constructed during the Ming Dynasty, it centers around a sprawling labyrinth of interconnected lakes, streams, and bridges, creating a sense of infinite space and fluid motion. It also includes multiple pavilions, like the Hall of Distant Fragrance, which provides panoramic views of the central lotus pond.
