Christmas Island: Crab migration – 4am spawning
The actual spawning is deep at night at the high tide watermark right before dawn. Crabs enter water and then perform a peculiar dance – they raise the claws up in the air and shake their asses vehemently (unloading the eggs). It’s like a dancefloor in Ibiza but with crabs. Some hang on from the rocks above water and drop the eggs down below.
