Alto de los Idolos Archaeological Park is another unit of the San Agustin Archaeological Complex, but it looks and feels quite different from the jungle-clad main unit. Alto de los Idolos lies at the elation of nearly 5,000ft /1500m on a series of open grassy hills elevated above the surrounding countryside. Here, the statues are the tallest, with the largest being over 7m / 23 ft high. There are 23 carved monoliths here, both anthropomorphic (depicting humans) and zoomorphic (depicting animals). There are also a number of raised tombs and sarcophagi.
