Colombia: Bogota – La Candelaria & Bolivar Plaza
La Candelaria is the historic core of Bogota and one of the city’s 17 districts. Cobblestone streets are lined up with old Spanish colonial architecture, baroque and Art Deco edifices, churches, museums, and souvenirs stalls and restaurants serving Colombian food. On the east side of La Cabdelaria is the Montserrat Hill where a cable car takes you up for a panoramic view, while on the west side is the massive Plaza de Bolivar with the Bogota Cathedral, statue of Simon Bolivar, Palace of Justice, and National Capitol. People fill up the square for selfies and you can’t help but notice how life imitates art in Colombia – women have massive Botero-sized surgically enhanced bottoms (Colombia is world’s leading country for butt surgical enhancement).
