Colombia:: Cartagena – Macaws at Oasis Eco Park

Right next to the cruise terminal in Cartagena port is 10,000 sq ft nature reserve with a variety of animals and birds, the main attraction here are the macaws – there are four species here, all endemic to lowland Colombia and living at the park without any cages or restriction, they just come for food. The four species are Blue-and-Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao), Red-and-Green Macaw (Ara chloropterus), and Chestnut-fronted Macaw (Ara severus). There are dozens of birds here – upclose and all around the trees, plus there are three species of green parrots as well – all at a hand’s reach!
