The gateway to all the archaeological treasures of idol statues is the tiny town of San Agustin with colorful colonial architecture, and a beautiful red stone Church of San Agustín. The town dates to 1750s. The idol statutes can be found all around the central square, perhaps moved here from the nearby archaeological sites. Many idols are revered to this day by the locals and treated like deities.
