Colombia: Zipaquira
Zipaquirá is a beautiful small colonial town about 50km north of Bogota that looks more like Spain then Colombia – a beautiful central square, cobblestone streets, ornate medieval cathedral, and several palaces. A settlement was actually here since pre-Columbian times, and the Spanish established a village in the 1590, while the cathedral dates to 1605. There’s another square a few block away from the cathedral, and another church further uphill from there. Zipaquirá is easily fully explorable in an hour or so, or much longer if stop for good Colombian coffee at the many coffee shops lining the squares.
