Comoros/Moheli: Moheli Highlands Hiking

We ventured on a rather long and somewhat strenuous hike towards the highlands in the middle of the Moheli Island to the virgin rainforest in hope to see the world’s largest bats – Livingstone Flying Fox (next post). The hike begins along the mixed forest and farmland area where tropical plants like ylang, ylang, cocoa, coffee, jackfruit and so on are grown. Eventually the hike climbs to vanilla plantations and then to completely untouched virgin rainforest with giant trees, bizarre insects, huge land snails, and strange flowers. The total elevation gain along the hike up is almost 900 feet.
