Cook Islands: Aitutaki – snorkeling in Aitutaki Lagoon
Here was a new experience – swimming with giant trevally and bonefish. Giant trevally are massive tuna-like fish that grow up to 5 feet long and look like a submarine with huge head and torpedo-like speed as they swim around you. Mildly unnerving to be honest. Bonefish is another interesting fish species – they are prized as the best game fish in the world for the fight they put up. People pay insane amount of money to fish for bonefish. Well, in Aitutaki – you can just swim with then within a hand stretch away. Also snorkeling the reef was great as well, check out the amazing seahorses I found.
