Costa Rica: Monteverde Cloud Forest – Night Tour

Unlike the mind blowing night tour experience in Arenal – private and in a private reserve within the national park – the night tour at Monteverde was a total disappointment. A fairly large group of first-time loud non-biology-inclined tourists walking around the well-worn trails in search for scant wildlife. We saw an ass of a sloth, another ass of an emerald toucanette on a branch, another ass of a motmot bird, and “an anal area” (as the guide put it) of a howler monkey high up in the trees (basically another ass) – so it was perhaps an anal-area-specialty-themed tour. Add in a couple bugs, leaches, frogs that you have to wait for your turn to observe, while other go “oh wow cool a big bug!” around you.
