Costa Rica: Volcan Rincon de la Vieja NP – Hiking

Volcan Rincon de la Vieja National Park is a hiking paradise in the very northern part of Costa Rica. Two active volcanoes are part of the park – Rincon de la Vieja and Santa Maria. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the diversity of its fauna and flora. Quite a contrast hiking here after the rainforests – this is dry forest with all the tropical birds and animals in it, and the loop trail showcases all the best features of the park. Plenty of beautiful birds (like colorful motmot), giant iguanas of various types, parrots, toucans, curassow, squirrels, white-faced howler monkeys and much more. And a lot of weird trees – massive figs, acacia, cacti.
