Crete: Psykro Cave aka Dictaeon Androm
High up in the mountains surrounding the Lasithi Plateau lies this cave that is supposedly the birthplace of Zeus according to Greek mythology. It’s a brutal hike up the switchbacks with almost 200m elevation gain and the you descend half of that steeply down into the cold and humid cave. Well, Zeus’s place of birth wasn’t particularly god-like – dark, wet, cold. As far as caves go – it’s small but with a lot of formations.
