Cuba: Gran Piedra

Sierra Maestra range is famous for Gran Piedra, also known as “The Big Rock” – a massive rock formation. It’s one of the largest exposed rocks in the world, measuring approximately 63 m (207 ft) long, 25 m (82 ft) wide, and 30 m (98 ft) high. The Gran Piedra is composed primarily of volcanic rock and is estimated to weigh around 63,000 tons. First you drive on a rough road high up into the mountains, then it’s a half an hour of a steep high to the top of the mountain, and up there is the massive rock and a ladder leading up to the top of the rock. A stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, forests, and coastline, can be had from the top.
