Cuba: Havana – Iglesia Espiritu Sancto & Convento Santa Clara

Two stunning churches lie in close proximity along the busy Calle de Cuba in Havana – Iglesia del Espiritu Sancto & Convento de Santa Clara. Both look really simple from the outside, but the interior is beyond stunning and lavishly decorated. Iglesia del Espiritu Sancto dates back to 1648, and is one of the oldest churches in Havana, intentionally built simple from the outside out of coral stone without any architectural decorations. A single nave inside holds priceless paintings and other treasures. Convento de Santa Clara is equally old, dating to 1643, very unremarkable from the outside, but stunningly ornate in its interior.
