Cuba: La Farola Mountains & Road
The La Farola mountain range is in eastern Cuba, stretching across Guantanamo and Holguin provinces. Named after the La Farola road that winds through the mountains like. serpentine, it’s famous for its landscape, lush green vegetation, and stunning panoramic vistas. The road itself is an engineering marvel, rising steeply and with many hairpin 180 turns with breathtaking views of valleys, cliffs, and coastal areas. The are several overlooks and also an observation platform at the highest point that requires a short hike to. The road was built in 1960s after the Cuban revolution (although Batista government did the planning) and was a total Castro showcase with 11 bridges and many turns, and the highest point of 600m above sea level.
